Interactive Student Cards:

Everything GTAs & Instructors Need

Say goodbye to slow paper rosters, expensive cloud software subscriptions, and fragile internet dependencies in lecture halls.

Bank-Grade AES-256 Encrypted Class Sharing

Collaborating with another GTA or co-instructor? Export the entire class entryโ€”including course metadata, enrolled student names, mapped NFC cards, and past lecture session recordsโ€”into a single password-protected .nfcroster file. The receiving GTA enters the decryption password and immediately resumes attendance with zero re-scanning.

How Tap Tracker Protects Student Data

Unlike cloud services that store sensitive student identification records on third-party servers, Tap Tracker keeps all data entirely on your physical device in encrypted SQLite storage.

1
Key Derivation (PBKDF2)

65,536 iterations of PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with an 8-byte random salt to prevent brute-force attacks.

2
AES-GCM-256 Symmetric Encryption

Authenticated encryption with a 12-byte random initialization vector (IV) ensuring confidentiality and tamper resistance.

3
Automatic Conflict Merging

When importing conflicting courses or sessions, names automatically resolve to *_imported so zero existing records are overwritten.

// Cryptographic Pipeline
val salt = generateSalt(8)
val key = pbkdf2(password, salt, 65536)
val iv = generateNonce(12)
val cipher = AES_GCM_256(key, iv)

// Encrypt Class Package
val encrypted = cipher.encrypt(classJson)
saveAs("CS101_Roster.nfcroster")

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers about card compatibility, offline usage, encryption, and teaching assistant workflows.

Does Tap Tracker require an internet connection in the classroom? โ–ผ
No! Tap Tracker is strictly 100% offline-first. All student rosters, NFC card mappings, and attendance session logs are stored locally on your device in high-speed SQLite storage. You never have to worry about weak Wi-Fi or basement lecture halls.
What types of NFC cards and student IDs are supported? โ–ผ
Tap Tracker supports standard high-frequency 13.56 MHz NFC smartcards, including Mifare Classic, Mifare Ultralight, NTAG213/215/216, DESFire, ISO 14443-A/B, FeliCa, and standard NFC-enabled University Student ID badges. It automatically reads both the hardware card UID and any NDEF text records.
How do multiple GTAs share cards and rosters for the same course? โ–ผ
Only one GTA needs to tap and link the student cards initially. That GTA then taps "Export Encrypted Roster" and sets a password. The exported .nfcroster file can be shared over messaging apps or Nearby Share. The second GTA opens the file in Tap Tracker, types the password, and instantly has all student names, IDs, paired NFC cards, and past session records!
What happens if an imported file contains existing sessions or courses? โ–ผ
Tap Tracker uses smart conflict resolution. If an imported course or session name already exists (e.g. Lecture 1), the app automatically renames the newly imported conflict to Lecture 1_imported (and Lecture 1_imported_2), ensuring zero historical records are lost or overwritten.
Can I export attendance into Excel, Google Sheets, or Canvas? โ–ผ
Yes! Tap Tracker generates clean, standardized CSV matrix reports where rows represent students and columns represent lecture/lab dates. It is 100% compatible with Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, Google Sheets, Canvas LMS, Blackboard, and Moodle gradebooks.
Is student data private and GDPR/FERPA compliant? โ–ผ
Yes. Because Tap Tracker has no external servers, no tracking analytics, and no cloud databases, all student data remains exclusively in the physical possession of the instructor. Exported backups are hardened with PBKDF2 (65,536 iterations) and AES-GCM-256 encryption.
